majored in Far Eastern languages and literature.

Gene graduated from Stanford Medical School, completed his psychiatry residency, and practiced clinical and forensic psychiatry in Hawaii for 42 years. He is the author of The Road Home and Other Stories and Cityscapes: Intimate Strangers, and lives with his wife, Toni, in Treasure Island, Florida.
